Former SC Justice Prakash Wosti passes away at 74
According to family and hospital sources, he was rushed to Norvic Hospital in Thapathali following the attack but succumbed during treatment.
KATHMANDU: Former Supreme Court Justice Prakash Wosti passed away on Friday night due to a heart attack.
According to family and hospital sources, he was rushed to Norvic Hospital in Thapathali following the attack but succumbed during treatment.
Wosti was appointed as an additional justice of the Supreme Court on Sept 7, 2008.
He served in the judiciary for nearly six years and retired as an additional justice on April 12, 2014.
Following his retirement, Wasti became actively involved in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), serving as a member from Oct 19, 2014, to Oct 17, 2020, under the leadership of former Chief Justice Anup Raj Sharma. He later devoted his time to research, study, and writing.
In 2007, Wosti played a key role in the “Judiciary Public Trust Enhancement Study Committee” formed by the Supreme Court Bar Association. The committee submitted a report highlighting the influence of intermediaries in the judiciary. He was also a member of the “Task Force for a Depravity-Free Judiciary” established by the Supreme Court in 2009.
Wosti began his legal career in 1976 and served as a legal advisor to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) under the leadership of Surya Nath Upadhyaya.
He was awarded the title of Senior Advocate in 2008 and had a deep interest in combating corruption, civil law, and the development of legal systems. He authored numerous books on these topics.
Born on June 22, 1953, Wosti dedicated his life to justice, law, and social reform.
Even after retirement, he remained actively engaged in legal studies and advocacy.
His demise is considered a significant loss to the legal and judicial community.
