Police officer critically injured after self-inflicted gunshot

KATHMANDU: A police officer in Kanchanpur sustained critical injuries after shooting himself.
The incident occurred on Friday evening at the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, where Police Constable Chakra Prasad Neupane was stationed.
According to DSP Umesh Joshi, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Neupane shot himself in the forehead using a pistol.
The incident took place in the logistics department, where Neupane was in charge.
He reportedly fired the shot during a moment when no one else was present in the department.
Neupane was rushed to Navjeevan Hospital in Dhangadhi for treatment. Medical Officer Bhishma Bhatta stated that the bullet passed through the side of his forehead, injuring the bone and causing internal bleeding.
Preparations are underway to transfer him to Nepalgunj for advanced medical care.
The case is under investigation.
