TU prepares for FSU Election on Feb 27
The university has expedited the election process.
KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University has begun preparations for the upcoming Student Union (FSU) elections, set to take place on Feb 27.
The university has expedited the election process.
Pashupati Adhikari, Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare and Sports, confirmed that the preparations are underway, and he emphasized that the process of conducting the elections has already begun.
A meeting of the Student Welfare Council was held, during which discussions were held to ensure the election is conducted on the scheduled date.
The date for the FSU election is already fixed in the academic calendar. Director Adhikari mentioned that the university will soon hold discussions with student organizations to advance the election process.
Samik Wadal, President of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (ANNISU), mentioned that his organization is preparing for the elections. A committee has been formed under Vice -Chair Govinda Giri’s leadership to prepare the election manifesto.
Wadal further shared that ANNISU will hold district president meetings on Jan 9 and , 10, and the central committee meeting will be held from Jan 19 to 21, for election-related discussions.
Suraj Sejwal, spokesperson of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), informed that representatives have already been sent to all campuses where the election will take place. He also mentioned that along with expanding the organization, election-focused programs have already begun at all campuses.
Pacha Singh, Chair of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Revolutionary), stated that campus committees have already been instructed to prepare for the FSU elections.
He added, “As we are currently focused on the general convention, we have not been able to fully prepare. Once the convention is over, our single-point demand will be the FSU election. The election will take place on time, and we are preparing for it.”
The FSU elections, which are held every two years, have not been regular since 2008. The election that took place on March 19, 2009, was followed by another one on March 28, 2017.
The last elections were held on March 29, 2023, but several campuses were unable to conduct the elections
. The FSU election will be held at all 62 campuses and 1,040 affiliated campuses across the country. The election will be governed by a mixed voting system, with an age limit of 28 years.
