ICC penalizes Indian cricketer Virat Kohli
Kohli was penalized for deliberately bumping into Australian debutant Sam Konstas during the game.
KATHMANDU: The ICC has taken disciplinary action against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli for intentionally colliding with an opponent during the fourth Test match against Australia.
Kohli was penalized for deliberately bumping into Australian debutant Sam Konstas during the game.
As a result, the ICC has deducted 20% of his match fee and awarded him one demerit point.
Demerit points remain valid for 24 months, and accumulating additional points within this period may lead to further sanctions.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, any form of inappropriate physical contact in cricket is strictly prohibited.
Recklessly walking into or deliberately shoulder-bumping a fellow player or umpire constitutes a breach of this rule.
The incident occurred after the 10th over of the fourth Test when Kohli bumped into Konstas, leading to a heated exchange between the two players.
However, Australian opener Usman Khawaja intervened to de-escalate the situation.
Replays revealed that as Konstas was walking in one direction, Kohli intentionally approached from the opposite side and bumped shoulders with him.
