KATHMANDU: Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a young woman in Morang, police said.
The accused include 19-year-olds Mohammad Ramjan and Sonu Kumar Sah, both residents of Katari-2, and Mohammad Gulzar, also 19, from Kushakatta in Araria, India.
The incident came to light on Tuesday afternoon when a 23-year-old woman was found unconscious in Katari-2. She was discovered with her hands and feet bound, leading authorities to suspect foul play. Initial investigations revealed that Ramjan allegedly raped the woman, while the other two suspects assisted in restraining her.
According to police, the victim was forcefully abducted from a location near her home, taken in a car, and later assaulted in a bamboo grove. “The initial inquiry shows that one of the suspects committed the rape, while the others helped in restraining the victim,” a police source said.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar, and her condition is reported to be improving. Police have completed her medical examination, and further investigations will continue once the report is received.
Authorities are continuing their investigation from various angles. The three suspects were remanded in custody after the district court in Morang extended their detention period for further inquiry.
