Light snowfall & fog likely amid changing weather patterns

KATHMANDU: The westerly low-pressure system and accompanying westerly winds are currently influencing Nepal’s weather, bringing light snowfall and partial weather changes, particularly in the mountainous regions.

Kathmandu Valley has been experiencing cloudy conditions due to this system, which is expected to clear by this afternoon.
Today’s weather is predicted to be clearer compared to Tuesday, with temperatures in the Valley ranging from a morning low of 7.5°C to a maximum of 16–18°C.
Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces are witnessing general cloudiness, while parts of Koshi and Bagmati provinces remain partly cloudy.
Light rainfall and snowfall have been reported in Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces, while fog continues to affect the Terai region.
Daytime Forecast:
- Himalayan regions: Partial to general cloudiness with light to moderate snowfall.
- Hilly regions: Partial to general cloud cover with chances of light rainfall.
- Terai: Partial to general cloudiness with light rainfall in some areas.
Nighttime Forecast:
- Himalayan regions: Cloudy skies with light snowfall in isolated areas.
- Hilly regions: Partial to general cloud cover with light rain in a few places.
- Terai: Partial to general cloudiness with light rainfall in isolated locations.
Morning fog and mist are expected in the Terai and Kathmandu Valley, possibly disrupting transportation, aviation, and daily activities.
The department has urged the public to exercise caution and adopt necessary safety measures, particularly on Thursday morning.
