NHRC investigates alleged mistreatment of Rabi Lamichhane
The investigation was initiated following the public revelation of the incident during Lamichhane's detention in Chitwan.
KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is investigating an alleged case of mistreatment against Rabi Lamichhane, the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister.
The investigation was initiated following the public revelation of the incident during Lamichhane’s detention in Chitwan.
The National Human Rights Commission began its probe after the RSP filed a complaint, claiming inhuman treatment of Lamichhane.
Commission spokesperson Dr. Tika Ram Pokharel confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. “Our investigative team is looking into the alleged mistreatment of Ravi Lamichhane. We do not have all the details yet, but once the investigation is concluded, the findings will be made public. As this is an ongoing investigation, nothing can be disclosed before it’s finalized,” Dr. Pokharel told Makalu Khabar.
The Commission emphasized the need for a fair and independent investigation while ensuring the respect and protection of basic human rights, including the right to a fair trial and the protection of prisoners, under the rule of law.
Additionally, Lamichhane faces charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering, with a charge sheet already filed against him in the Kaski District Court on Sunday.
Lamichhane has been suspended from his parliamentary seat.
