KATHMANDU: In Bhaktapur’s Balkot, it has been revealed that Kul Prasad Acharya and his younger son Pravin were murdered by a family member.

The investigation has pointed to Kul Prasad’s eldest son, Milan Acharya, as the perpetrator.

Milan, who turned himself into the police on Tuesday morning, has confessed to the crime.

He stated that family tensions led him to kill his father and brother.

The father, the permanent resident of Majhuwagadhi municipality- 2 in Khotang, was an officiating chief for the District Post Office, Khotang.

He had come to Bhaktapur on Dec 13 to visit his sons.

According to police sources, Milan admitted to the murders, citing his failure in the civil service exam and his father’s battle with depression as contributing factors.

Milan also revealed that after committing the murders, he attempted to take his own life but failed. “I have failed the civil service exam multiple times, and my father was also suffering from depression,” he told the police. “The stress from family issues led me to make this decision.”

After the incident, Milan left the room locking it from outside in the following morning on a scooter.

SSP Sanuram Bhattrai, head of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, confirmed Milan’s confession, but stated that a thorough investigation would continue.

The bodies of the victims have been sent to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for postmortem.
