Mayor Koirala inspects paving of canal road in Biratnagar
The contract for the construction has already been awarded, and work has commenced.
KATHMANDU: A new road paving project will be carried out in Biratnagar at an estimated cost of around Rs 40 million.
The road from Rajbanshichowk, located west of the Pulchok bridge in Ward No. 4, will be blacktopped to the canal section of the Rani-Dharan Road in Ward No. 13.
The contract for the construction has already been awarded, and work has commenced.
Mayor of Biratnagar, Nagesh Koirala, inspected the construction site on Monday.
The road project is being funded by the municipality’s internal resources, with a budget of Rs 38.2 million, as informed by Mayor Koirala.
He further mentioned that once completed, the new road will help alleviate some of the traffic congestion seen on the Dharan Road.
Though the estimated cost of the project was Rs 63.4 million, the contract was awarded for Rs 38.2 million.
The contract was signed on 6th Bhadra (August 22), and currently, gravel work is in progress.
According to the contract, the total length of the road to be constructed is 5.5 kilometers.
Previously, the section from Airport Road to Keshaliya Road had already been blacktopped. The project is expected to be completed by 5th Bhadra, as per the contract.
However, Engineer Arjun Thapaliya, Head of the Municipality’s Infrastructure Department, confirmed that work is expected to be completed by the end of Chait (mid-April).
During the inspection, Mayor Koirala also held discussions with local residents.
Ward Chairpersons Jitan Thapa of Ward No. 4 and Tirthendra Neupane of Ward No. 11, along with other local representatives, were present at the site.
