The 56-year-old Acharya, a resident of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-1, Khotang, was discovered along with his 22-year-old son in suspicious circumstance.
KATHMANDU: Acting Postmaster of Khotang District Post Office, Kul Prasad Acharya, and his younger son, Praveen Acharya, were found dead in their rented house in Suryabinayak Municipality-2, Balkot, Bhaktapur, on Monday.
The 56-year-old Acharya, a resident of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-1, Khotang, was discovered along with his 22-year-old son in suspicious circumstances, according to local authorities.
Chief District Officer of Khotang, Shiva Kumar Karki, confirmed the tragic news, stating, “Acharya had informed us on Dec 13 that he was taking leave. Hearing this news today is devastating.”
Acharya had traveled to Bhaktapur five days ago to visit his two sons—his elder son, Milan, and younger son, Praveen—who were staying in a rented house in Balkot.
Local police reported that the father and son were found dead inside a locked room, with visible injuries on their bodies, suggesting foul play.
Acharya’s elder son, Milan, who was reportedly staying with them, is currently missing, raising suspicions about the incident.
According to relatives, including Gopal Acharya from Khotang, the three had dinner together on Sunday night and went to bed.
On Monday morning, neighbors found both external doors locked from the outside and the father and son dead inside the room.
Authorities have revealed that initial investigations confirm Milan had also stayed in the same house on the night of the incident.
The circumstances, combined with the visible injuries and the locked doors, have led police to suspect the deaths were a case of murder.
The bodies have been retrieved from the rented house and are being sent for autopsy.
The exact cause of death remains under investigation, according to Khotang District Post Office.
Further details are awaited as police intensify their search for Milan Acharya and continue their probe into this tragic and suspicious case.
