Social activist Sunita Danuwar passes away unexpectedly

KATHMANDU: Renowned social activist Sunita Danuwar, a dedicated campaigner against human trafficking, passed away unexpectedly this morning. She was found unconscious at her residence in Jorpati while still in bed.
Her husband discovered her unresponsive state when attempting to wake her.
Though she was rushed to the hospital, doctors declared her dead on arrival. The cause of death remains unclear at this time.
Sunita Danuwar was the founding president of Shakti Samuha, an organization committed to the rights and rehabilitation of women affected by human trafficking.
She was widely recognized for her social contributions and had received numerous national and international accolades.
In 2018, she was honored by the U.S. Department of State as a “TIP Hero” for her efforts in combating trafficking in persons. Additionally, Fortune magazine included her in its list of the world’s 50 greatest leaders.
Her untimely demise is an irreplaceable loss to the fields of social work and human rights advocacy.
Her contributions will continue to inspire generations to come.
