Liverpool shines, Real surges, United stumbles
KATHMANDU: Premier League leaders Liverpool extended their lead at the top to four points after a thrilling 6–3 victory over Tottenham on Sunday.
At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Luis Díaz and Mohamed Salah scored twice each, while Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai added a goal apiece to secure Liverpool’s impressive win.
For Tottenham, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Yves Bissouma found the back of the net.
Liverpool now stands at 39 points from 16 matches, ahead of second-placed Chelsea, who have 35 points from 17 matches. Chelsea played out a goalless draw with Everton on Sunday. Tottenham remains 11th with 23 points.
Real Madrid Pressures Atlético with Sevilla Win
Real Madrid kept the La Liga title race alive with a 4–2 victory over Sevilla on Sunday, increasing pressure on league leaders Atlético Madrid.
Goals from Kylian Mbappé, Federico Valverde, and Rodrygo gave Real a commanding 3–0 lead within 34 minutes. Mbappé opened the scoring in the 10th minute, marking his 10th goal of the season. Valverde doubled the lead in the 20th minute.
Sevilla responded with a 35th-minute strike from Isco Romero. Brahim Díaz extended Real’s lead in the 53rd minute, and Sevilla’s Dodi Lukebakio added a late consolation goal in the 85th minute.
Sevilla captain Jesús Navas played his final match, ending a 20-year journey with the club. Persistent injuries forced him to retire mid-season.
With 18 matches played, Real Madrid is second with 40 points, trailing Atlético Madrid, who have 41 points. Barcelona, in third, has 38 points from one game more. Sevilla is 14th with 22 points.
Manchester United Humiliated by Bournemouth
Manchester United’s struggles in the Premier League continued with a humiliating 3–0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert, and Antoine Semenyo secured the win for Bournemouth. Huijsen opened the scoring in the 29th minute, followed by Kluivert’s penalty in the 61st minute and Semenyo’s goal two minutes later.
Despite creating chances, United failed to capitalize, leaving them with 22 points in 13th place. Bournemouth climbed to fifth with 28 points.
In other matches, Wolves defeated Leicester City 3–0, Fulham and Southampton drew 0–0, and Everton held Chelsea to a goalless draw.
