Honeytrap scandal: Inspector Binu Shahi spends night in custody

KATHMANDU: Suspended Police Inspector Binu Shahi spent the night in custody after appearing at the Lalitpur District Court on Sunday.
She remained in custody as the court could not complete the detention hearing due to time constraints.
Shahi is a defendant in a case filed by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, accusing her of extorting money from a real estate businessman through a honeytrap scheme in Bhainsepati.
Although her statement was recorded on Sunday, the detention hearing could not proceed due to a lack of time, leading the court to order her temporary custody.
The case alleges that Shahi, along with five others, including Assistant Constable Mahendra Hamal of the Bhainsepati Police Division, Sushma BK, and Taj Mul Islam and Bhimadevi Thapa of Itahari, threatened to implicate the businessman in a rape case to extort money.
Police investigations revealed that the group extorted Rs 3 million from the businessman.
