KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, is set to be suspended from his position as a Member of Parliament (MP).

The suspension follows the registration of a charge sheet in court under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

According to Kamala Kafle, the District Attorney at the District Government Attorney’s Office in Kaski, Lamichhane’s suspension will remain in effect until the final verdict is reached.

“As per Section 27 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, once a charge sheet is filed, the position of any employee, official, or public servant is automatically suspended until the case reaches its conclusion,” Kafle stated.

She further mentioned that a formal letter, informing the Parliament Secretariat about the charge sheet filing, is being prepared.

The provision for automatic suspension is explicitly outlined in Section 27 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

On Sunday, the District Government Attorney’s Office in Kaski registered a case against Lamichhane and 30 others at the Kaski District Court.

The charges are related to the fraudulent activities of the Surya Darshan Cooperative in Pokhara, with three distinct charges filed against the accused.
