Helicopter crashes into Turkish hospital, killing four
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
KATHMANDU: Four people lost their lives on Sunday when a helicopter crashed into a hospital in southwestern Turkey, Mugla’s provincial governor, Idris Akbiyik, confirmed. The tragedy was attributed to dense fog in the area.
“The helicopter struck the fourth floor of the hospital during take-off and then fell to the ground,” Akbiyik said. The victims included two pilots, a doctor, and an employee on board.
The helicopter departed from the roof of Mugla City Hospital, bound for Antalya, under poor visibility conditions, as shown in footage aired by NTV. Moments after take-off, the aircraft drifted in thick fog before crashing into a nearby empty field, according to local media.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
This incident occurred less than two weeks after another helicopter crash in Turkey’s southwestern Isparta province, where six soldiers were killed during a military training exercise. The defense ministry has yet to disclose the cause of that crash.
