Case against Rabi Lamichhane presented in court
The charges sought up to 10 years of imprisonment and the recovery of Rs 1.5 billion.
KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, has been charged in the Kaski District Court.
The District Government Attorney’s Office filed the case on Sunday, accusing Lamichhane and 32 others, including former DIG Chhabi Lal Joshi, Lila Poudel, and Krishna Gurung, of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.
The charges relate to the alleged embezzlement of funds from Suryadarshan Savings and Credit Cooperative, which were reportedly misused through Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Ltd.
Earlier, on Friday, additional charges were filed against 19 individuals, including G.B. Rai, for embezzling savings from the same cooperative.
The charges sought up to 10 years of imprisonment and the recovery of Rs 1.5 billion.
While Lamichhane’s case was not registered at that time, he was arrested on Oct 18 from his party’s central office in Baneshwor.
The allegations have sparked significant public attention as investigations continue.
