KATHMANDU: UAE claimed the Gulf T20 Championship title with a thrilling 2-run victory over Kuwait in the final.

Chasing a target of 154 runs, Kuwait was bowled out for 151 in 19.3 overs.

In a dramatic finish, Kuwait needed 3 runs off the last 5 balls to win, but UAE’s Mohammad Jawadullah took two crucial wickets, leading UAE to victory.

In the final over, Kuwait required 8 runs to win. The first ball was a wide, and then Mithil Bhavsar hit a boundary.

However, on the second ball, Bhavsar was caught, and on the third ball, Mohammad Shafiq was bowled out, ending Kuwait’s hopes.

Earlier, in the 19th over, Yasin Patel and Bhavsar brought Kuwait close to victory by scoring 21 runs off Junaid Siddiq.

Bhavsar was the top scorer for Kuwait, making 72 runs off 54 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. UAE’s Ali Nasir, Mohammad Jawadullah, and Simranjit Kang each took 2 wickets.

Before that, UAE batted first after winning the toss at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, scoring 153/9 in 20 overs.

Tanish Suri contributed 34 runs, while Mohammad Wasim (1), Asif Khan (23), Alisan Sharafu, and Rahul Chopra added 28 runs each. Kuwait’s Yasin Patel and Said Monib each took 3 wickets.

The Gulf Championship featured teams from UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Oman had won the inaugural edition last year.
