KATHMANDU: Atletico Madrid has ascended to the top of the Spanish La Liga after defeating Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday night.
The match, held at Barcelona’s home ground, saw goals from Rodrigo de Paul and Alexander Sörloth, securing the win for the visitors.
Barcelona’s Pedri scored a consolation goal for the hosts.
Barcelona initially took the lead with a goal from Pedri in the 30th minute.
However, Atletico Madrid equalized in the 60th minute through De Paul. In injury time of the second half, Sörloth scored the decisive goal to give Atletico Madrid the victory.
With this win, Atletico Madrid now holds the top position with 41 points from 18 matches.
Barcelona, with 38 points from 19 games, drops to second place.
Real Madrid, with two games in hand, is in third place with 37 points.
