KATHMANDU: Senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC), Dr. Shekhar Koirala, has pledged to transform the party into a force capable of contesting elections independently.
Speaking during an interaction with party leaders and cadres from all nine districts of Sudurpaschim Province in Dhangadhi, Kailali, Koirala emphasized his commitment to justice and fairness within the party.
“I am determined to make Congress a strong party capable of contesting alone. No injustice will be tolerated within the party, and fairness will prevail. I take full responsibility for this,” said Koirala while addressing the gathering.
Currently on a three-day visit to Sudurpaschim, Koirala reassured district leaders and cadres of equal opportunities within the party. “I understand your grievances. Many of you have faced injustice and been denied opportunities. I promise fairness after the 15th General Convention. For this, I need your support,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of the upcoming General Convention, Koirala stressed that holding it on time is crucial for the party’s strength and the survival of democracy. “Delaying the General Convention will weaken the party, and a weak party endangers democracy. To safeguard the nation and democracy, we must ensure the convention happens on schedule,” he stated.
Koirala criticized the coalition government of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, claiming it has failed to deliver on governance and corruption control. “Such a powerful government cannot afford to fail; it must succeed. However, its performance so far is far from satisfactory,” he remarked.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the performance of NC ministers in the current government, Koirala called for greater accountability.
During his first day in Sudurpaschim, he engaged in separate interactions with leaders and cadres from all nine districts, beginning in Kanchanpur and concluding in Darchula.
The discussions revealed widespread grievances among district leaders and cadres, who voiced concerns about central leadership’s bias and lack of opportunities due to factional favoritism.
Many pledged their support to Dr. Koirala in the 15th General Convention and provided suggestions for resolving internal disputes.
