KATHMANDU: Former Ward Chairperson of Balara Municipality-4, Keshav Jha, passed away today at the age of 85.

He had been suffering from pneumonia and respiratory issues for the past week, and his passing occurred during treatment, according to his nephew Naresh Jha.

Jha, a dedicated social worker and skilled politician, was active in politics since the Panchayat era.

He was elected as the chairperson of Balara Village Development Committee in 1999 and later as the ward chairperson of Balara Municipality-4 in the 2017 local elections under the banner of the Nepali Congress.

He is survived by his wife, one son, and four daughters.

Balra-4’s current ward chairperson, Manibhushan Singh, expressed deep sorrow at Jha’s passing and declared a day of mourning in the municipality today.

According to a public notice issued by Singh, all government offices, institutions, and schools within the ward will remain closed. Singh also stated that Jha’s passing marks the loss of an adept politician and compassionate community leader.

Meanwhile, Federal Member of Parliament Amresh Kumar Singh issued a condolence message, expressing profound grief over Jha’s death.

He extended his sympathies to the grieving family and wished them strength during this difficult time.
