AGENCY: At least 44 people have been confirmed dead, and 76 others injured in two separate road accidents in Ghazni province, eastern Afghanistan, on Wednesday night, local authorities reported on Thursday.

The incidents occurred on the outskirts of Ghazni city and in the Andar district, along the highway connecting Kabul to Kandahar.

Mullah Hamidullah Nesar, the provincial director of information and culture, stated that all the injured have been transported to medical facilities, with many in critical condition.

Reckless driving, congested roads, and the absence of traffic signs on deteriorating highways are the main causes of road fatalities in the war-torn country.
