Speaker Devraj Ghimire stresses effective role of legislature

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, emphasized the need to enhance the effectiveness of the legislature.

Speaker Ghimire remarked that if the parliamentary process is efficient, it will positively impact government operations as well. He noted that significant discussions took place during the conference on increasing legislative activity.
The event concluded with the issuance of a seven-point declaration.
Highlighting the importance of federalism and constitutional implementation, Speaker Ghimire stated that a joint framework for the federal, provincial, and local levels would be established.
He further mentioned that consultations with the government would be held to formulate laws and regulations pertinent to the federal and provincial parliaments.
Ghimire expressed confidence that the upcoming parliamentary session would pass the necessary laws to support the implementation of federalism, stressing that delays in drafting such laws must be avoided.
Chairperson of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, reaffirmed the federal parliament’s commitment to establishing the required legal provisions for the effective implementation of federalism.
The conference saw participation from the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chairperson of the National Assembly, and Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and Secretaries from all seven provincial assemblies.
