KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is set to hear a habeas corpus petition today demanding the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai.

The petition was filed by Prasai’s son, Nirajan, and will be heard in the bench of Justice Sunil Kumar Pokhrel.

Nirajan approached the Supreme Court after the District Court extended Prasai’s custody in a case unrelated to cybercrime.

Prasai was previously released on bail of 40,000 rupees for a cybercrime charge but was rearrested on allegations of making threats.

Earlier, during his detention on cybercrime charges, a habeas corpus writ had also been filed in the Supreme Court.

Initially, the court ordered Prasai to be presented within 24 hours, but the petition was later dismissed.
