Govt urges public to stop burning plastic & farm waste
The notice comes in response to rising air pollution in the Terai region and the Kathmandu Valley over the past few weeks.
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Forests and Environment has urged the public not to burn plastic waste and agricultural residue.
In a notice issued today, the ministry advised the public to ensure regular maintenance of vehicles, use clean energy in industries and kitchens, and properly control dust and smoke emitted from road construction and other development activities.
The notice comes in response to rising air pollution in the Terai region and the Kathmandu Valley over the past few weeks.
Key sources of air pollution include industries, factories, vehicles, and forest fires.
In addition, burning waste and agricultural residue in the open, as well as dust generated from roads and construction sites, contribute to worsening air quality.
The ministry emphasized that air pollution adversely affects human health, particularly impacting children, the elderly, those with respiratory and heart conditions, and pregnant women.
Therefore, the ministry called for extra caution to mitigate these risks.
