KATHMANDU: Various equipment and lights required for night-time flight services have been installed at Rajbiraj Airport.

With the support of the Civil Aviation Authority, Buddha Air conducted a night-time flight test on Friday, Dec 13.

The aircraft, which took off from Janakpur Airport at 6:31 PM, landed at Rajbiraj Airport at 7:00 PM. After the test flight, the aircraft returned to Janakpur.

The flight was piloted by Captain Manoj KC and Siddhartha Bahadur Singh.

Currently, only 10 airports in Nepal, including Rajbiraj, offer night-time flight/landing services.

Rajbiraj Airport is strategically located near Chandragadhi, Biratnagar, and Janakpur, making it a potential alternative airport during emergencies.

This improves the safety and reliability of flights in the region.

With IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) operations, flights can now be conducted even with a visibility of 2000 meters. Previously, the required visibility was 5000 meters.

This change will help reduce delays and cancellations.

After the successful test flight, Buddha Air launched regular night-time commercial flights from Kathmandu to Rajbiraj.

The ceremony was attended by Honorable Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Engineer Pradeep Adhikari, and other officials.

Buddha Air has been operating a daily flight to Rajbiraj and is now preparing to increase its flight frequency with the new night-time service.
