KATHMANDU: Patients seeking organ transplants and potential donors in Nepal can now access vital information through a newly launched online service.

This initiative has been made possible through the collaboration of the Department of Health Services, the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Sahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Centre.

Health Minister Pradip Paudel inaugurated the service during a ceremony held today, highlighting that this platform will greatly benefit citizens nationwide.

“Currently, 98% of kidney transplant recipients and 90% of lung transplant recipients in Nepal are leading normal lives. The government is committed to expanding transplant services even further,” the minister stated.

Dr. Pukar Chandra Shrestha, Chief of the National Transplant Centre, reported that over the past 12 years, the Centre has performed 1,335 kidney transplants and 30 lung transplants.

Despite being the country’s only government-run specialized transplant facility, it can currently accommodate only 200 kidney transplants annually, while the demand stands at around 3,000 patients.
