KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has dismissed a writ petition regarding a land donation made to the CPN-UML for the construction of its party headquarters.
The court ruled that the UML’s decision to accept land donated by Min Bahadur Gurung, the owner of Bhatbhateni Supermarket, is legal.
A joint bench of Justices Abdul Aziz Musalman and Bal Krishna Dhakal announced the decision to dismiss the petition.
Advocate Gyan Bahadur Basnet had filed the writ against the land donation, which had initially led to an interim order.
On Oct 11, Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli laid the foundation stone for the party’s central office building in Maitrinagar, Ward No. 2, Kirtipur Municipality.
The building is being constructed on 10 ropani and 14 aana of land donated by businessman Min Bahadur Gurung and Sabitri Gurung.
The UML’s previous headquarters, located in Madan Nagar, Balkhu, was destroyed in the 2015 earthquake.
For the past nine years, the party had been renting various buildings for its office.
The current office in Chyasal also faces frequent flooding issues, prompting the decision to establish a permanent headquarters.
