KATHMANDU: Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat of the Bundesliga season on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Mainz under manager Vincent Kompany.

Lee took advantage of Bayern’s defensive weaknesses, netting the opener in the 41st minute. He then doubled Mainz’s lead in the 60th minute. Sane pulled one back for Bayern three minutes from full-time, but the defending champions couldn’t find an equalizer.
Bayern were missing key players, including English striker Harry Kane, due to injury.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen closed the gap on Bayern with a 2-0 win over Augsburg.
Goals from Martin Terrier and Florian Wirtz secured the victory for Leverkusen.
After 14 matches, Bayern remain on 33 points, while second-placed Leverkusen have 29 points.
Mainz are in sixth place with 22 points, while Augsburg sit in 13th place with 16 points.
