Biratnagar Kings set 118-run target for Kathmandu Gurkhas
Losing the toss and sent to bat first, Biratnagar Kings were all out for 117 runs in 19.5 overs.
KATHMANDU: In the first match on Sunday of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), Biratnagar Kings managed a modest total against Kathmandu Gurkhas at the TU Cricket Ground.
After losing the toss, Biratnagar were invited to bat and were all out for 117 runs in 19.5 overs. Rajesh Pulami Magar was the top scorer for Biratnagar with 25 runs off 21 balls, hitting one four and one six. He was dismissed in the fourth ball of the 20th over by Kathmandu captain Karan KC.
Opener Deepak Bohara contributed 20 runs off 24 balls, including two boundaries, before being trapped LBW by Dipesh Kandel on the last ball of the 9th over.
Scott Edwards added 15 runs from 14 balls before being bowled by Gerhard Erasmus. Basir Ahmad scored 13 runs off 13 balls, hitting a six in the 15th over, but was caught by Bhim Sharki at the boundary while attempting a big shot off Shahab Alam.
Opener Lokesh Bam made 8 runs off 9 balls before falling LBW to Dan Douthwaite. Nicholas Kirton added 12 runs off 19 balls before being run out, while Ismat Alam was bowled by Dipesh Kandel for 5 runs.
For Kathmandu Gurkhas, Gerhard Erasmus took 3 wickets, Dipesh Kandel claimed 2, and Dan Douthwaite, Karan KC, and Shahab Alam picked up 1 wicket each.
Biratnagar Kings had already been eliminated from the tournament. Kathmandu Gurkhas, however, need a win to secure a place in the playoffs. If they lose, they will be knocked out of the competition.
In the second match of the day, Sudurpaschim Royals will face Pokhara Avengers.
