KATHMANDU: Minister for Drinking Water, Pradeep Yadav, has stated that efforts are underway to find long-term solutions for providing quality and safe drinking water to the public.

Speaking at the National Drinking Water and Sanitation Advocacy Summit jointly organized by the Ministry of Drinking Water, the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, and the National Federation of Water and Sanitation Users (FEDWAS), Minister Yadav emphasized the government’s commitment to maximizing the use of limited resources to ensure access to quality drinking water for all citizens.

According to the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, only around 27% of Nepali citizens currently have access to safe drinking water.

“This means that approximately 73% of the population still lacks access to clean drinking water. To increase this figure to 45% by the end of the Sixteenth Plan, we need concrete policies, sufficient budget, and sustainable planning,” the minister stated.

Secretary of the Ministry of Drinking Water, Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya, highlighted challenges faced by the sector, including climate change, limited funding, and population growth.
