KATHMNADU: Universal Health Coverage Day was observed today with the theme “Citizens’ Health: The State’s Responsibility.”
The day’s celebration aims to ensure that citizens can access essential healthcare services without facing financial hardship.
In a press statement issued today, the Ministry of Health and Population highlighted the significance of the occasion as an opportunity to invest in health services and raise awareness about preventing citizens, especially those facing financial struggles, from falling into poverty due to medical costs.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the goals of Universal Health Coverage.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 4.5 billion people worldwide still lack access to basic healthcare services, and 2 billion face financial difficulties due to healthcare expenses.
In 2021, Nepal’s health coverage index was 54 percent, with personal health expenses accounting for 54.1 percent of total health expenditures.
