KATHMANDU: Ncell Foundation, in line with its ongoing initiative to link cricket to the classrooms, has pledged 1,500 educational kits to students from community schools across Nepal to date.
The impactful initiative of the Foundation to support the students at community schools is tied to the 375 boundaries hit during the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL) powered by Ncell as of Dec 11.
This is a testament to the Foundation’s commitment to transforming the excitement of cricket into meaningful educational support for underserved communities, wherein the Foundation has committed to allocating 4 educational kits for every 4s hit during the NPL.
In the 19 matches played as of December 11, a total of 375 boundaries were contributed by 73 players. Lumbini Lions captain Rohit Kumar Paudel hit the highest number of boundaries, 24, ensuring the distribution of 96 educational kits. Janakpur Bolts’ Lahiru Malintha secured the second highest, with 22 boundaries contributing 88 kits, followed by Pokhara Avengers’ Andries Gous, whose 19 boundaries ensured 76 kits.
The educational kits distribution initiative aims to positively change students’ education. Each kit to be provided to students will include essential items such as school bags, notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, and more.
These materials are expected to help reduce the shortage of resources and are believed to contribute to students’ learning.
“This NPL has proven to be a milestone for the development of cricket talent in our country. We are linking the enthusiasm for cricket with social work, and educational kits will be provided to students who need resources. We would like to congratulate and thank every player who has contributed boundaries so far in the 19 matches, and we are confident that the remaining matches will be even more exciting, leading to more boundaries and a greater contribution of educational kits,” said Bishakha Laxmi Khadka, Head of Corporate Communications and CSR at Ncell.
Cricket, being one of the sports with a deep connection to the Nepali community has added excitement to this initiative. It gives power to society and delivers much-needed support and resources to those who are in need.
After the completion of the NPL matches, the Ncell Foundation will distribute educational kits in coordination with the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), local bodies, and stakeholders. To reach the targeted students in community schools, Ncell has partnered with the Karmayog Foundation.
NPL has contributed to the development of Nepal’s own domestic cricket talent.
Ncell’s partnership for NPL and the educational kits for each boundary is in line with the company’s theme, ‘Here for You,’ and its commitment to supporting the development of cricket and sports in Nepal.
The Ncell Foundation is committed to contributing to the prosperity of communities through effective initiatives that address important social needs.
