Jajarkot jeep accident kills 5, including infant (victims identified)

KATHMANDU: Five people, including a one-month-old infant, were killed in a jeep accident in Jajarkot on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 11 PM when a Bolero jeep (plate number Ga 3 Cha 9845) traveling from Kali, Nalgad Municipality-5, to Karuwa, Ward No. 3, veered off the road and crashed near Bir Khola on the Kaina-Kadke section.

The deceased have been identified as the 31-year-old driver, Indrajit Thapa, 65-year-old Shila Pun, 33-year-old Sharda Thapa, 17-year-old Laxmi Pun Roka, and her one-month-old son, Alochan Roka — all residents of Nalgaad Municipality-3, Karuwa.

According to the Jajarkot District Police Office, a rescue team reached the scene and transported the injured to Dalli Municipal Hospital at around 2:45 AM.

The hospital pronounced five people dead, confirmed DSP Purushottam Prasad Pandey, the district police chief.

Two individuals sustained injuries: 19-year-old Janak Thapa and 21-year-old Jivan BK, both from Nalgad Municipality-3.

Janak Thapa is currently undergoing treatment, while Jivan BK was discharged after receiving primary care, DSP Pandey reported.

The jeep reportedly plunged about 800 meters off the road. There were a total of seven people on board at the time of the accident.
