Govt bus runs over vehicles & pedestrians in Mumbai, 6 dead, over 40 injured
With some of the injured in critical condition, the death toll is feared to increase.
KATHMANDU: A government bus ran over multiple vehicles and pedestrians in Mumbai late Monday night, resulting in at least six fatalities and over 40 injuries, local police reported.
The accident occurred in the Ambedkar Nagar area.
The bus driver was also injured, and the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.
With some of the injured in critical condition, the death toll is feared to increase.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking’s bus, after ploughing through pedestrians and vehicles, entered into a residential society, Buddha Colony, and came to a halt.
The bus bearing registration number MH01-EM-8228 was going from Kurla railway station to Andheri when the accident occurred.
Other eyewitnesses reported that the bus, traveling on route 332 from Kurla to Andheri, also collided with a police vehicle.
The 12-meter long electric bus, manufactured by Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech, was leased to BEST under a wet lease arrangement, according to another official.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
