KATHMANDU: An accident in Rautahat last night claimed the lives of eight people.

The victims were returning to Siraha after attending the Gadhimai Festival in Bara.

The incident occurred around 1:15 AM when a Scorpio jeep, with registration number BA 16 Cha 3162, lost control and crashed into a tree.

According to the police, the vehicle was heading towards Chapur from Nijgadh when the accident took place near Dhansar Bridge in Chandrapur Municipality-4, along the East-West Highway.

Five children were injured in the crash, and the jeep fell into a ravine after hitting the tree.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

One seriously injured person has been taken to Vayodha Hospital in Birgunj, while others are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
