Elite Cinema Hall in Itahari fined Rs 300,000 for overcharging on bottled water

KATHMANDU: Elite Cinema Hall in Itahari has been fined Rs 300,000 for selling bottled water at a price higher than the maximum retail price.

The fine was imposed by the Department of Commerce, Supply, and Consumer Protection Office in Biratnagar.

The cinema hall was found to be selling bottled water of the “Kinley” brand at prices exceeding the prescribed retail limit.

The action followed a complaint filed by a consumer, prompting an inspection by a joint team from the Department of Commerce and the Revenue Branch of the Itahari Municipality on Thursday.

Dhirg Bahadur Ghimire, Information Officer at the Department of Commerce, Supply, and Consumer Protection Office, confirmed that the action was taken based on the consumer complaint.
