KATHMANDU: Federal MP Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma’s management of Nobel Medical College Teaching Hospital Public Limited has announced a dividend distribution.
At a meeting of the board of directors held on Dec 1, the hospital proposed to distribute a 200% dividend at the rate of 60 crore rupees to shareholders from the profit and retained earnings of the fiscal year 2080/81, including capital tax.
To pass the dividend, Nobel has called for its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) as a public company on Dec 24 at 11 a.m. at the company’s registered office in Biratnagar.
This is the first AGM after Nobel transitioned from a private to a public company.
The AGM will authorize the board of directors to procure various health equipment to improve the hospital’s standards and acquire land as necessary for better health service delivery.
The meeting will also grant the board the authority to obtain loans from banks for the required resources.
Additionally, the board will be given the authority to acquire companies with similar objectives, including hospitals, educational institutions, and other sectors such as hydro energy, solar energy, and tourism. Investments in shares of such companies will also be authorized.
The AGM will approve the annual report and audit report of the fiscal year 2080/81. It will also appoint auditors and determine their remuneration for the fiscal year 2081/82.
Under Dr. Sharma’s leadership, Nobel has already provided free healthcare services to thousands of patients through free medical camps as part of its social responsibility. Dr. Sharma has conducted such camps across various locations in Eastern and Western Nepal, including the Himalayas, hills, and the Terai region.
These camps continue regularly, and patients unable to afford further treatment are referred to either Nobel or Kathmandu Medical College for free care. For the extremely poor, free healthcare and subsidized services are provided at the hospital.
For the past 17 years, Nobel has been offering free OPD registration and doctor consultations.
Dr. Sharma is the only MP who has pledged not to take any facilities provided by the state. He has committed to serving the people without receiving any personal benefits from the government.
During the recent Dashain and Tihar festivals in 2081, Nobel organized a 6-day trip to Dubai for 60 doctors, teachers, and staff members.
Earlier, 20 administrative and accounting staff members were also sent on a trip to Thailand.
