Bhutanese King’s Nepal transit: Visiting to Swayambhu & Bouddha

KATHMANDU: Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, currently on an official visit to India, is set to visit Nepal today during his return journey to Bhutan.

Kathmandu has been chosen as his transit stop for a brief stay of four to five hours. During this short visit, the King is scheduled to visit two major religious sites in Kathmandu—Swayambhunath and Bouddhanath.

King Jigme Khesar will land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIAA) at 9:50 AM.

From there, he will head directly to Swayambhunath for a religious tour, followed by a visit to Bouddhanath. After completing these visits, he will return to the airport to depart for Bhutan.

The Nepalese government has arranged special security measures and other facilities for the King.

Security at Tribhuvan International Airport has been heightened since Wednesday in preparation for his arrival.

According to police sources, the King will not participate in any formal meetings during his time in Nepal.

This visit by King Jigme Khesar is seen as a gesture of religious devotion and holds cultural significance in strengthening Nepal-Bhutan relations.
