World Soil Day celebrated with various events
The day was first recognized by the United Nations General Assembly on Dec 5, 2013, following a recommendation by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
KATHMANDU: World Soil Day is being observed with various programs under the theme “Soil Health: Testing, Monitoring, and Remediation,” as stated by the National Soil Science Research Centre.
The day was first recognized by the United Nations General Assembly on Dec 5, 2013, following a recommendation by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
It has been officially celebrated in Nepal since Dec 5, 2014.
In Nepal, the celebration is being jointly organized by the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), the National Soil Science Research Centre, the Department of Agriculture, the Nepal Soil Society, and the International Wheat and Maize Improvement Center.
The official commencement of World Soil Day in Nepal started with field-based soil testing at the mobile soil testing laboratory in Panauti, Kavre.
