KATHMANDU: Arun Danda (Chhintalung), located in Pauwadungma Rural Municipality-1 of Bhojpur district, has become a popular choice for domestic tourists.

The area has been established as a tourist destination following the development of necessary infrastructure by the rural municipality.

Close proximity to the district headquarters has made it an ideal destination for urban dwellers seeking to escape the fatigue of city life.

With the joint efforts of the rural municipality and the Koshi Province government, the installation of statues of Buddha, Shiva, and Lhumbor, along with infrastructure development, has led to an increase in tourist numbers, according to Rural Municipality Chairperson Kiran Rai.

Highlighting the municipality’s vision, Chairperson Rai stated that Arun Danda is being developed as the primary tourist destination in the area.

A detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared, and infrastructure development is underway. He expressed optimism that this initiative will significantly contribute to the municipality’s economic growth.

“We are actively working on the development of Arun Danda and related facilities,” said Rai. “Approximately 80 ropanis of land have been allocated for the expansion of diverse structures. Our aim is to integrate tourism with sustainable economic development and establish a reliable source of income for the municipality.”

Ward Chairperson Rajendra Tamang of Pawadhungma-1 informed that alongside road expansions, footpaths and resting areas have been constructed. Tourists visiting the area enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges and surrounding plains while also offering prayers at the local temples.

“Arun Danda holds religious significance as well,” said Tamang. “Visitors not only come to immerse themselves in natural beauty but also fulfill vows by performing rituals at the temple.” He noted that while previous daily tourist numbers ranged between 10–15, the figure has risen to 25–30 since the development of basic infrastructure.

Chief Administrative Officer Nabin Bhattarai emphasized the strategic and planned development of the area to uplift the local standard of living. Efforts are underway to promote the destination through various channels, including exploring the potential for tea cultivation to attract tourists and create sustainable economic opportunities.

Local resident Lal Bahadur Tamang highlighted that tourists enjoy both the natural serenity and traditional local cuisines offered in the region.

He added that Arun Danda’s proximity to the Bhojpur-Leguwa Mid-Hill Highway has made it easily accessible, contributing to the growing tourist flow.

“The municipality’s role in the development of Arun Danda has directly impacted the rise in tourist numbers,” said Tamang. “During holidays, the destination sees an influx of domestic tourists, making it increasingly popular.”

Situated at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level, Arun Danda is regarded as both a religious and natural tourism hub. Its development is poised to play a pivotal role in the region’s socio-economic progress.
