Clash between RSP protesters & police in Chitwan leaves 24 injured (video)

KATHMANDU: A clash occurred between activists of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the police in Chitwan, demanding the release of party president Rabi Lamichhane.
The altercation resulted in eight police officers being injured.
According to District Police Chief Gautam Mishra, the clash took place when protesters attempted to block the road leading to the Office of the Government Attorney.
As the protesters began throwing stones, the police were forced to use tear gas and water cannons to control the situation.
The injured police officers are receiving treatment at Bharatpur Hospital. Mishra stated, “The police did not use force; the injuries occurred when protesters threw stones.”
Protesters had breached a restricted area in front of the district police office while demanding Lamichhane’s release, which led to the confrontation.
RSP Chitwan Chair Krishna Bhushal reported that 16 protesters were injured.
They are being treated at various hospitals, including Bharatpur Community Hospital, Narayani Community Hospital, and Dev Hospital.
Lamichhane’s statement is being recorded at the Government Attorney’s Office.
He was brought to Chitwan from Kathmandu for questioning on charges of embezzling funds from Sahara Cooperative, where he allegedly misappropriated Rs 10.8 million, which was transferred to Gorkha Media.
