‘The Golden Thali’ launches in Thamel, offering authentic Nepali flavors
The Golden Thali can serve over 100 people at once, with a peaceful atmosphere for enjoying the meal from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
KATHMANDU: ‘The Golden Thali’ has officially opened at the Thamel Eco Resort, a new venture aimed at offering authentic Nepali cuisine.
The initiative, led by seasoned tourism professionals Rajan Simkhada and Mohan Lamsal, along with Chef Nepal Team, aims to promote the traditional flavors of Nepal’s mid-hill region.
The thali is designed to represent Nepal’s diverse culinary heritage, incorporating local specialties. Simkhada emphasizes that the foundation of Nepali cuisine is pickles, highlighting items like chutney made on a stone grinder, traditional pickles, and fresh, cooked varieties that are part of the Golden Thali.
The thali includes over 15 dishes, featuring a variety of meat options. Unlike the standard restaurant thali, which typically offers a fixed set, ‘The Golden Thali’ allows customers to choose from different options, such as meat, lentils, beans, or mixed dals. Additionally, customers can select from maize, wheat, buckwheat, or millet for their dhido. Rice options include marsi, taichin, basmati, or cumin rice.
Vegetable dishes vary with the season, offering a choice of wet vegetables (gravy), dry vegetables, or local greens.
The Golden Thali can serve over 100 people at once, with a peaceful atmosphere for enjoying the meal from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The vegetarian thali is priced at Rs 550, while the non-vegetarian thali comes with an additional charge. In addition to the thali, the Thamel Eco Resort offers a range of food and beverages, including tea from Rs 20, Orthodox tea, Nepali coffee, and various drinks at the ‘Nepali Tapas Bar.’
Anu Dhakal, the CEO of ‘The Golden Thali,’ envisions the space as a destination to experience and bottle Nepal’s rich culinary traditions.
