KATHMANDU: TikTok has removed 6,078 videos in Nepal within two months for violating its Community Guidelines.

According to TikTok representatives, 99.1% of these videos were taken down immediately, while 93.2% were removed within 24 hours.

The videos were originally posted between April and June this year.

The data was presented during the “Digital Safety Summit Nepal” organized by TikTok today in Kathmandu in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. Sidra Jalil, a TikTok representative, delivered a presentation outlining TikTok’s regulatory guidelines.

Jalil emphasized TikTok’s efforts to maintain a respectful and organized platform by implementing specific rules, including age restrictions.

Users must be at least 16 years old to send direct messages and 18 years old to go live. However, she noted that the lack of awareness about the responsible use of social media often leads to non-compliance with these guidelines.

Firdous Moktakin, TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to collaborating with the Nepalese government to promote digital literacy and online safety.

He highlighted the creation of specific guidelines for safeguarding children and youth online, underscoring TikTok’s proactive role in ensuring user safety.

The initiative marks a significant step towards creating a secure online environment in Nepal, with TikTok focusing on the well-being and safety of its users.
