Vice President urges Qatar to provide 24-hour insurance for Nepali Workers

KATHMANDU: Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has urged the Qatari government to arrange 24-hour insurance coverage for Nepali workers employed in Qatar.

During a meeting with Qatar’s Ambassador to Nepal, Mishal Bin Mohammad Ali Al Ansari, at the Vice President’s office in Lainchaur, Yadav also requested assistance for the rescue and proper compensation of Nepali workers who have been injured or died there. He further asked for necessary support for Nepalis in hospitals, deportation centers, and prisons.

“Sixty-seven Nepali nationals are serving jail sentences in Qatar, and many others are living without proper documentation,” said the Vice President. He requested the ambassador to appeal for a pardon or reduced sentences for those imprisoned and to help undocumented workers either secure regular employment or return to Nepal.

The Vice President expressed satisfaction over the close cooperation between Nepal and Qatar on mutual interests and support at multilateral and regional forums.

He also appreciated Qatar’s role in mediating the release of Nepali citizens, including Bipin Joshi, who were held hostage.

Ambassador Al Ansari emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and expressed support for promoting and protecting investments in Nepal.

He also highlighted the efforts to safeguard the welfare of Nepali workers, of whom there are currently 400,000 in Qatar.
