By-election results announced nationwide: Party-wise winners list
While the elections in seven states led to some exchanges of positions among the Nepali Congress, UML, and Maoist Centre, the results have not indicated significant political upheavals.
KATHMANDU: The results of the by-elections held on Sunday for 41 vacant local-level positions across Nepal have been announced.
According to the Election Commission, the final vote counts, including those for the Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in Kathmandu, Vice-Chairperson of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality in Dolakha, Vice-Chairperson of Sarkegad Rural Municipality in Humla, and Ward Chairperson of Belaka Municipality-9 in Udayapur, were completed and made public on Monday night.
While the elections in seven states led to some exchanges of positions among the Nepali Congress, UML, and Maoist Centre, the results have not indicated significant political upheavals.
The Nepali Congress made notable gains, breaking through UML strongholds, despite the Maoist Centre losing some previously held seats.
Initially, the by-election program was scheduled for 44 positions. However, three candidates were elected unopposed before the elections.
Tekraj Bhattarai and Tika Kumari Chaudhary (Bhul) of the Nepali Congress were elected unopposed as the chief of the District Coordination Committees in Okhaldhunga and Kailali, respectively, while Jagat Gharti of the Maoist Centre was elected unopposed as Ward Chairperson of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-2 in Rukum East.
