KATHMANDU: In the Kirtipur Municipality mayoral by-election, the Nepali Congress candidate continues to maintain the lead.

The election was held on Sunday, and the vote counting for the five wards has been completed, as confirmed by Election Officer Indira Karki.

According to the current tally, Krishna Man Dangol of the Nepali Congress remains in the lead.

The contest in Kirtipur has been highly competitive, with political parties treating it as a matter of prestige.

As per the latest update from the Election Commission, Dangol has secured 2,930 votes.

He is being closely followed by Surendra Manandhar, the candidate from the CPN-UML, who has received 2,384 votes.

Shiv Sharan Maharjan of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has garnered 2,101 votes, while independent candidate Rajman Maharjan is in fourth place with 1,113 votes.

A total of 11,014 votes have been validated in Kirtipur.
