KATHMANDU: Police have detained two individuals for questioning in connection with the death of Armed Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Laxman Prasad Yadav, who was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Siraha.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramesh Pandit, the suspects were taken into custody on Sunday for investigation.
The vehicle involved in the incident and those connected to it have also been identified, SP Pandit confirmed.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning on an inner road near the Nepal-India border at Badiyarpatti-1, Kachanari, where Yadav, 48, was on patrol duty.
He was fatally struck by an unidentified Scorpio vehicle, which fled towards India after the collision.
Yadav’s body was sent to the state hospital in Lahan for postmortem examination before being handed over to his family.
He was cremated at his residence in Naraha Rural Municipality-4 later that evening.
The incident sparked protests as locals, including Yadav’s relatives, alleged it was a premeditated murder.
They claimed the vehicle deliberately ran over him when he tried to stop it for transporting illegal liquor.
Demonstrators blocked the East-West Highway in Lahan, demanding justice.
