Time card system implemented to curb road accidents in Koshi State
The time card system was officially launched by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Chandra Kuber Khapung
KATHMANDU: The Koshi State Police has introduced a time card system for vehicles operating on key routes in Sunsari, Morang, and Jhapa districts.
This measure, effective from Saturday, aims to curb the rising number of road accidents in the state.
The time card system was officially launched by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Chandra Kuber Khapung, at Gachhiya Chowk in Sundarharaicha-7, Morang.
The system is applicable to passenger vehicles plying the East-West Highway from Kakarbhitta to Koshi Barrage and the Koshi Highway from Dharan to Biratnagar.
Time limits have been specified for different stretches:
- Biratnagar Bus Park to Itahari Bus Park (24 km): 45 minutes
- Itahari to Dharan (20 km): 38 minutes
- Kakarbhitta to Birtamode (17 km): 30 minutes
- Kerabari (Jhapa) to Belbari (Morang, 33 km): 1 hour
The initiative comes in response to a surge in road accidents in the province. In the past two weeks alone, 25 fatalities have been reported in Koshi State due to vehicular crashes.
Authorities hope the time card system will regulate vehicle speeds and reduce the frequency of accidents.
