KATHMANDU: Voting is peacefully ongoing in various locations across the country for 41 vacant positions in local bodies.

According to local representatives from Hetauda, voting for the position of Ward Chairperson is underway in Ward No. 12 of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City.

Voters, with enthusiasm, are lining up at the voting centers at Pratibha Basic School and Vishnu Jyoti Basic School in Ward No. 12. According to the Bagmati State Election Office, there are 8,053 voters in the ward.

The position of Ward Chairperson became vacant after Lalit Bahadur Ghalan, who was elected in the previous election, became the Chief of Makawanpur District Coordination Committee. Twelve candidates are contesting for the position, including nine from various political parties and three independents.

In Rajbiraj, Saptaari, voting is also taking place for the position of Ward Chairperson in Ward Nos. 1 and 4 of Dakneshwari Municipality. This by-election is being held due to the demise of the previously elected Ward Chairpersons. In Ward No. 1, eight candidates, including one independent, are competing, and in Ward No. 4, eight candidates, including one woman, are in the race. According to the District Election Office, there are 2,635 voters in Ward No. 1 and 1,281 in Ward No. 4.

In Mahawu Rural Municipality, Dailekh, voting is taking place peacefully for the position of Ward Chairperson in Ward No. 5 at two polling centers. The voting began at the scheduled time, and 92-year-old Jagat Kumari Singh cast the first vote. Seven candidates are competing in this election. According to the District Election Office, there are 1,760 voters in the ward.

In Humla, voting is taking place for the position of Vice-Chairperson of Sarkegad Rural Municipality. Voters are lining up at multiple polling stations, including Deval Primary School, Saraswati Secondary School, Laliguras Secondary School, Devkota Secondary School, Himjyoti Secondary School, Bhawani Secondary School, Dhumchuli Secondary School, Kallas, Swayambhu Secondary School, Ishwar Secondary School, Kot Secondary School, Anshubarma Secondary School, and Nilkanth Community Primary School.
