KATHMANDU: A woman in Kanchanpur has allegedly murdered her husband while he was sleeping.

Janak Kumari Rana, a resident of Bhurakot, Belauri Municipality-6 in Kanchanpur, reportedly killed her 49-year-old husband, Siyarama Rana, by striking him with a brick, according to preliminary investigations.

The police were informed on Thursday about the death of Rana at his home.

Upon discovering that his wife was involved in the murder, the police took Janak Kumari into custody, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umeshraj Joshi, spokesperson for the District Police Office.

Initially, locals had reported that Rana’s death was due to slipping in the bathroom. However, the police soon began to suspect foul play after noticing signs of a violent death rather than an accidental fall.

Further investigation revealed that the body was not found in the bathroom but rather in a corner of the house, covered with a blanket, which raised further suspicion.

Police observed head and skull injuries on the deceased, prompting them to treat the case as a possible homicide. As the investigation continued, blood stains were found in several places inside the house, including on furniture, the door, and a chair.

A bloodied brick was discovered under the bed, and clothes soaked in blood were found in a drawer. It was then confirmed that the victim had been murdered.

After some interrogation, Janak Kumari admitted to killing her husband. She explained that the two had argued earlier in the day, and when her husband was resting in the afternoon, she took the opportunity to strike him with a brick.

According to a police officer involved in the investigation, Janak Kumari struck her husband while their daughter was at school.

After the murder, when their daughter returned home, she began crying, which alerted the neighbors and led to the police being notified.

A case has been filed under the charge of homicide, and the District Police Office in Kanchanpur has obtained a 10-day extension for further investigation, as reported.
